January is a long month. The dark days made all the darker by the sudden absence of Christmas sparkle with rainy, cold mornings, and the cheerless combination of winter-cold season and healthy-eating regimes makes for no-one’s favourite month.
Escape to the milder climate of the Channel Islands where Spring is already evident, where sunny daffodils are already beginning to appear, evenings are a little brighter, and where the warmth of the Gulf Stream allows for some exhilarating cliff walks and seaside strolls even in the earliest weeks of the year. Experience the incredible scenery of Jersey, or investigate Guernsey’s heritage and wildlife and then make your destination a cosy country pub, or reward yourself with a Sunday roast lunch.
A quieter time on the Islands, this can be the best period during which to see Jersey and Guernsey at their unspoilt best. Discover vast expanses of empty beaches, enjoy the peaceful calm of the Markets without the summertime crowds and take your pick of the best ocean-view tables for leisurely lunches. Both Jersey and Guernsey are renowned for good food, the Channel Islands have even been highlighted as the number one gastronomic hotspot in the British Isles in the 2020 Good Food Guide, and if that sounds appealing you may want to coordinate your break with the Taste Jersey food festival, which runs from 24 February – 29 March.
A Channel Islands break in January or February is the ideal time to take advantage of some excellent value at the best Jersey and Guernsey have to offer. What could be more rejuvenating than a few days in the early Spring of Jersey or Guernsey to kick-start your year….
