Description
Considered Guernsey’s most historic hotel, the Old Government House Hotel & Spa was built in the early 1700s for a local merchant and later became the official Governor’s residence for the island and the Bailiwick. It’s the island’s only 5 star hotel and is renowned for its exceptional food, service and hospitality. Sitting just above the centre of the charming St Peter Port, with its cobbled streets, restaurants, shops and museums, the Old Government House offers lovely views out over the harbour, and the quayside itself is only a five minute stroll away.
The hotel boasts a luxurious spa, a fully-equipped gym & a heated outdoor swimming pool. The Brasserie Restaurant overlooks the hotel’s private gardens and provides seasonal menus using local organic ingredients, and the Curry Room showcases a selection of the finest Indian dishes from around the world. In such a sunny location though, the best way to dine is al fresco, and The Olive Grove is a lovely spot to do just that, the surrounding gardens are lovely and the sea views are magnificent. It’s also the perfect location for breakfast, for afternoon tea, or for a refreshing evening cocktail. The hotel’s bar, the Crown Club, has an extensive selection of drinks, including signature vintages from the hotel’s sister wine estate.
The Old Government House Hotel & Spa is an excellent base to explore the island of Guernsey, from beautiful beaches, cliffside walks and country rambles, to historic buildings and museums like the German Occupation Museum, Guernsey Folk and Costume Museum, Castle Cornet or Hauteville House – the historic home of Victor Hugo.
